Buying Body Jewelry for Yourself

Updated: Mar 21

If you're buying body jewelry for yourself—especially for a new or fresh piercing—there are some key things to keep in mind:

1. Buy Your Jewelry the Same Day as Your Piercing

Many clients like to browse jewelry options ahead of time and come back later to purchase a piece for their new piercing. However, once jewelry leaves the studio, we have to assume it has been worn, which means we cannot use it for a fresh piercing due to strict health regulations.

Health Department Regulations Require:

✔️ We can only pierce with brand-new, never-worn jewelry that has been sterilized in our studio.

✔️ Jewelry that has already left the shop cannot be brought back to be used for a piercing.

For this reason, we always recommend choosing and purchasing your jewelry the same day as your piercing appointment to ensure the piece you love is safe and ready to be used.

2. Body Jewelry Cannot Be Returned or Exchanged

Because body jewelry is worn inside the body, health department regulations prohibit returns and exchanges for any reason. This policy is in place to prevent the risk of spreading bacteria, infections, or contaminants.

Once body jewelry leaves our studio, it is considered final sale. This means it’s important to double-check sizing, style, and material before completing your purchase. If you’re ever unsure about what jewelry is right for your piercing, we’re always happy to help!

Buying Body Jewelry as a Gift

Gifting body jewelry can be tricky because body jewelry isn’t a one-size-fits-all situation. Unlike traditional jewelry, every piercing requires specific measurements, including:

  • Gauge (thickness of the post or ring)

  • Length (for barbells or posts)

  • Diameter (for rings and hoops)

If you don’t know the exact size, gauge, or style the recipient needs, there’s a high chance the jewelry won’t fit properly. Since body jewelry cannot be exchanged or returned, buying the wrong size can be an expensive mistake.

Why Gift Cards Are the Best Option

Because body jewelry is so specific to each person’s anatomy and piercing, we highly recommend gift cards instead of purchasing jewelry as a surprise gift.

✔️ The recipient can choose the exact size, style, and material they love.

✔️ No risk of buying the wrong fit and being stuck with unreturnable jewelry.

✔️ They can consult with a piercer to ensure they get the perfect piece.

Gift cards allow your loved one to get exactly what works for their piercing while still giving them something thoughtful and special.

Final Thoughts on Buying Body Jewelry

Whether you’re shopping for yourself or someone else, understanding health regulations and proper sizing is key to making a smart purchase.

✔️ If you're getting a fresh piercing, buy your jewelry that same day to ensure it meets sterilization standards.

✔️ Once body jewelry leaves the studio, it is final sale—so double-check sizing before purchasing.

✔️ If you're buying for someone else, a gift card is the best way to ensure they get the perfect fit.

By keeping these guidelines in mind, you’ll make the best decision for both safety and style. If you have any questions, our team is always here to help!
